Road Trip!

Last Friday, Saturday, and Sunday we made good on our south-of-the-border intentions and road tripped it to Mexico. Along the way we stopped at White Sands, Carlsbad Caverns, and Roswell. The following photos are highlights of our journey that was very much motivated by end-of-summer fatigue.

It's like surfing, except on sand and with a dish instead of a board...

The original Atlas satellite!

Corn Derek truly is an angel...

Rachel wouldn't stop tickling me. A pox on her!

Behold, the bare Satchel midriff!

Eatin' peaches.

We camped out in the back lawn of the LDS chapel in Alamogordo. It rained all night and the sprinklers added to the mayhem... But the price couldn't be beat!

Saints with a saint in front of the main cathedral in Juarez!

With his Crocodile Dundee hat and Camelbak, Tyler was by far the uber-tourist.

Joseph wrapped in a brightly colored blanket blending in among the natives.

Only $3 for these direct Italian imports!

Steve looking rather bewildered at what the Me-hee-canos are eating.

Only $1 for four sweet, sweet tacos de higado (liver)! They were tasty, and Fanta in a glass bottle can't be beat!

Our bread got smashed so our sandwiches were fantastically ghetto.

Who needs Subway when you've got a cooler full of foodstuffs in the back of Rachel's truck?

Our posse in front of the mouth of Carlsbad.

I'm goin' deeper underground...

Corn Derek with a very large melted ice cream cone-lookin' something something.

A bat tried to bite Joseph so he bit it back in an Alice Cooper-esque fashion.

This is the most luvin' Corn Derek got this summer--from a stalagmite!

Restrooms 755 feet underground!

Corn Derek playing third wheel to the Walkers and a cave formation.

These formations are called Lion Tails, but they also function as maces.

Who could resist a bite to eat in a cave?

I don't want to detail what went on here.

We got here just 15 min. too late to see the actual museum, but we still got some out-of-this world photos!

Even the vending machines are extraterrestrial-related in Roswell!

No, it's not a Provo establishment promoting modesty, it's the Cover-Up Cafe. Only in Roswell.

If it's made in China and can be imprinted with an alien logo, you can buy it here.

A classic Joseph handstand in front of one of the alien street lights.

Oh yeah! Rubbernecking at its finest! The accident that slowed us down on the way home on I-40.

Aid For Ugly!

Thanks to everyone who voted in the Ugliest Paintball Gun contest for Dave's gun! He won by only a margin of 5 votes--so your vote mattered. He's very much indebted to us now, so feel free to come and play with us at will. That is, if you really want to face Excalibur herself, Dave's new Smart Parts gun...

This Is How I Roll

Deep, homie. Muy deep... Here's to another year of Mexican wagoneering adventures!

Manager For a Day

I was temporarily made the officer manager and soon enough I was ruling Albuquerque with an iron fist on top of a throne of cardboard...

Family Dollar Fashions

Only $15 for this sweet little number! When I buy a motorcycle I'm picking up one of these for sure...

Fum Fum Fum

I don't know why Fum with a fan is funny. Maybe because it rhymes. Ask Dave Pilkington or Steve Hatch.

A Corn Birthday

No, Corn Derek wasn't kidnapped by the Zapatistas. It was his birthday, and Maloni gave him $8 worth of Mexican paraphenalia. We hung a piñata from our ceiling fan with dental floss for him to hit. It quickly broke and we resorted to tossing it to him underhand softball-style while he was still blindfolded...

The Day of Rest

So I fell asleep in church. So sue me.

Summer Sunday Scrabble

Because of the official online Scrabble dictionary Joseph and I have had some pretty intense games this summer. Mibs? Vig? Also, I now officially disapprove of trundles. By the way, a xu is a unit of Vietnamese currency. Xu know it!

The Albuquerquarium

Yesterday we hit up the painfully inland Albuquerque Aquarium and Botanic Gardens. Although the actual aquarium was a little small, the next nearest place one can see a working shrimp boat or live school of manta rays is Corpus Christi, Texas--so it's pretty neat. Enjoy my photojournalistic efforts of our li'l buddies under the briney deep.

What's an aquarium without a shark?

This delightful little fella is a sea turtle--a real crowd pleaser!

This psychedelic jellyfish pulsated rainbow colors. I gots to get me a few of these for the rave scene...

The manta rays were probably my favorite. Friendly folks, them rays. Always waving hello but keeping their poisonous stingers on the ready...

Corn Derek The Tahitian Warrior in his natural habitat and me.

This pufferfish was the largest I'd ever seen. Corn Derek wanted to eat it.

Me being attacked by a moray eel in the gift shop. These predators use their plush and cuddly facade to draw unsuspecting prey to them, mostly small children.

This is a vineyard in the botanic gardens. We took a horse-drawn wagon ride near here. The horses' names were Dan and Dick.

Guess Who's Back... Back Again...

And the verdict is... I'M STAYING AT THE BRITTANY! And there was much rejoicing. This is what tipped the scales for me: I'm lazy. This is my senior year, and I don't want to spend another year in another ward only to leave when I've already attained legend status in the 51st. Now is the time to truly capitalize on the fruits of my labors in this hour of waning undergraduate education! Besides, I couldn't leave my main homeboy Swag hanging. Although The Brotherhood has been disbanded by 50%, our goals and aims must press forward! Heaven help all who dwell within its cinder block walls if I regret my decision!!!

The Hitchin' Post

My sister Amy's done and contracted matrimony. It went down at the Bountiful Temple for time and all eternity on August 4th. Props to my little sis and my brother-in-law numero dos, Kolby. The Pan Wyoming-Utah Alliance is now solidified with this union! I'm still waiting on someone in the family to send pictures of me showing off my mad bartending skills in the tiki hut during the luau-themed reception....

Should I Stay Or Should I Go Now

I hate moral dilemmas... No matter what I choose, I just want everyone to know, especially Brittany, that I cherish her apartment complex and the BYU 51st Ward. Why not leave a comment to influence my decision making... if you can!

If Someone Splats Today, I Want Them To Be French

Well, Li'l Renny has linked me on her blog, so I am returning the favor. Despite my unwaivering antagonism for the French, I shall acknowledge this blog because she is, in fact, not actually french. Check out her zany BYU 51st Ward antics and Arizonian musings out at:

This Is The Ska

In honor of Pioneer Day, a shout out to my favorite band, THE AQUABATS! and their plains-crossing-like musical sodbusting. Don't forget to visit their website with an utmost degree of regularity--it's the labamba.

AP American Mullet

Here it is, Mr. Glover's retirement mullet. Props to my bro for sending me this picture of the beauty in all of its aging and greying glory. Long may she wave!

Mein Fraucht Facial Herr!

Behold, the SquirtsBeard in all its glory before it was disdainfully shorn into a goatee! Now here we have definitive photographic evidence that Sterling is, in fact, a yeti of the highest claymation order...

The League of Trailer Park Warriors

Our official militaristic society dedicated to the trench sales in the dusty trailer home courts of Albuquerque... I have attained the rank of The Doublewide Commander. Joseph has been promoted to Broken Appliance Admiral, and we are still looking for someone to fill the Cinder Block Corporal slot...

You'll find these guys. Teach us how to rock, oh Great Ones!

Truth in Advertising

Today for Steve's birthday we busted out the 9-foot behemoth known as PARTY ISLAND and used it in all its Wal-Mart glory to navigate the treacherous waters of the Rio Grande in a manner in which the instructions printed on the side specifically state to NOT engage in... It was a blast, and the chocolatey waters in the end turned us all a little less cacausian...

The Official Posters!

The blog just wouldn't be complete without them... But I'm ticked off it's rated R!

Music Video on Snakes on a Plane!

Cobra Starship... One of the greatest movie soundstrack title song conglomeration bands of all time... In fact, it's one of the only movie soundstrack title song conglomeration bands of all time... At any rate, the fact that Maja Ivarsson is connected to this movie only heightens my frenzy over them motherly snakes on that maternal plane... This is the first song in a long time to incorporate the words "venom," "serpentine," and "slithering" in one poetic act...

A Rebel Among Us

Joseph officially went blonde for exactly five days. His dandelion-esque dome radiated a presence that few Muhlesteins have ever projected from their scalp before...

Still the greatest show on TV... Throughout my childhood and into adulthood you've taught me that being a mercenary is a legitimate career path!

It's Peanut Butter Jelly Time!

'Nuff said.

Chuck Norris: Comedic Genius

I was talking to my brother Mark today and he informed me of the latest internet humor craze--Chuck Norris jokes. I looked them up for myself and picked out the best ones derived from everyone's Texas Ranger that's never "missing in action" for too long... A word of warning: if Chuck catches you reading this, it's an automatic roundhouse kick through your trailer wall. A * denotes my favorites.

MacGyver can build an airplane out of gum and paper clips, but Chuck Norris can kill him and take it.

Chuck Norris once roundhouse kicked someone so hard that his foot broke the speed of light, went back in time, and killed Amelia Earhart while she was flying over the Pacific Ocean.

If you ask Chuck Norris what time it is, he always says, "Two seconds till." After you ask, "Two seconds to what?" he roundhouse kicks you in the face.

Chuck Norris appeared in the "Street Fighter II" video game, but was removed by Beta Testers because every button caused him to do a roundhouse kick. When asked bout this "glitch," Norris replied, "That's no glitch."

Since Chuck Norris was born, roundhouse kick related deaths have increased 13,000 percent.

Chuck Norris sold his soul to the devil for his rugged good looks and unparalleled martial arts ability. Shortly after the transaction was finalized, Chuck roundhouse kicked the devil in the face and took his soul back. The devil, who appreciates irony, couldn't stay mad and admitted he should have seen it coming. They now play poker every second Wednesday of the month.

*Filming on location for Walker: Texas Ranger, Chuck Norris brought a stillborn baby lamb back to life by giving it a prolonged beard rub. Shortly after the farm animal sprang back to life and a crowd had gathered, Chuck Norris roundhouse kicked the animal, breaking its neck, to remind the crew once more that Chuck giveth, and the good Chuck, he taketh away.

Chuck Norris does not sleep. He waits.

To prove it isn't that big of a deal to beat cancer Chuck Norris smoked 15 cartons of cigarettes a day for 2 years and acquired 7 different kinds of cancer only to rid them from his body by flexing for 30 minutes. Beat that, Lance Armstrong.

There are no disabled people. Only people who have met Chuck Norris.

There is no chin behind Chuck Norris' beard. There is only another fist.

The chief export of Chuck Norris is pain.

Chuck Norris is currently suing NBC, claiming Law and Order are trademarked names for his left and right legs.

*When Chuck Norris plays Oregon Trail his family does not die from cholera or dysentery, but rather roundhouse kicks to the face. He also requires no wagon, since he carries the oxen, axles, and buffalo meat on his back. He always makes it to Oregon before you.

*It was once believed that Chuck Norris actually lost a fight to a pirate, but that is a lie, created by Chuck Norris himself to lure more pirates to him. Pirates never were very smart.

If paper beats rock, rock beats scissors, and scissors beats paper, what beats all 3 at the same time? Answer: Chuck Norris.

Scientists used to believe that diamond was the world's hardest substance. But then they met Chuck Norris, who gave them a roundhouse kick to the face so hard, and with so much heat and pressure, that the scientists turned into artificial Chuck Norris.

Chuck Norris drinks napalm to quell his heartburn.

If you want a list of Chuck Norris' enemies, just check the extinct species list.

*Chuck Norris owns the greatest poker face of all-time. It helped him win the 1983 World Series of Poker despite him holding just a joker, a 2 of clubs, a 7 of spades, and a green number 4 from Uno and a Monopoly 'get out of jail free' card.

*Contrary to popular belief, Chuck Norris, not the box jellyfish of northern Australia, is the most venomous creature on earth. Within 3 minutes of being bitten, a human being experiences the following symptoms: fever, blurred vision, beard rash, tightness of the jeans, and the feeling of being repeatedly kicked through a car windshield.

Before science was invented it was once believed that autumn occurred when Chuck Norris roundhouse kicked every tree in existence.

After much debate, President Truman decided to drop the atomic bomb on Hiroshima rather than the alternative of sending Chuck Norris. His reasoning? It was more “humane.”

Chuck Norris waited patiently in Al Capone’s vault for 63 years just so he could give Geraldo Rivera the surprise beating of his lifetime.

When Chuck Norris goes to donate blood, he declines the syringe and instead requests a handgun and a bucket.

Chuck Norris only has two speeds: walk and kill.

Scientists in Washington have recently conceded that if there were to be a nuclear war, all that would remain would be cockroaches and Chuck Norris.

When the boogeyman goes to sleep every night, he checks his closet for Chuck Norris.

There is no theory of evolution. Just a list of creatures Chuck Norris has allowed to live.

Chuck Norris is the reason why Waldo is hiding.

Remember the Soviet Union? They decided to quit after watching a Delta Force marathon on satellite TV.

Chuck Norris can lead a horse to water and make it drink.

People don't die of "natural causes." It's just something doctors use because there's only so many times you can say "Chuck Norris did it, again" in one day.

Chuck Norris counted to infinity - twice.

How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could Chuck Norris? All of it.

Chuck Norris CAN believe it's not butter.

When an episode of Walker Texas Ranger was aired in France, the French surrendered to Chuck Norris just to be on the safe side.

Chuck Norris ordered a Big Mac at Burger King, and got one.

Some people wear Superman pajamas. Superman wears Chuck Norris pajamas.

When J. Robert Oppenheimer said, "I am become death, the destroyer of worlds" he was not referring to the atomic bomb. He was referring to the Chuck Norris halloween costume he was wearing.

Behind every successful man, there is a woman. Behind every dead man, there is Chuck Norris.

It is scientifically impossible for Chuck Norris to have had a mortal father. The most popular theory is that he went back in time and fathered himself.

Chuck Norris destroyed the periodic table, because only Chuck Norris recognizes the element of surprise.

As President Roosevelt said: "We have nothing to fear but fear itself. And Chuck Norris."

Sticks and stones may break your bones, but a Chuck Norris glare will liquefy your kidneys.

Give a man a fish, and you will feed him for a day. Give a man anything that is better than a fish, and Chuck Norris will beat him and take it.

*Chuck Norris never wet his bed as a child. The bed wet itself out of fear.

*Chuck Norris is widely predicted to be first black president. If you're thinking to yourself, "But Chuck Norris isn't black," then you are dead wrong. And stop being a racist.

Chuck Norris uses tabasco sauce instead of visine.

Chuck Norris once participated in the running of the bulls. He walked.

They say curiosity killed the cat. This is false. Chuck Norris killed the cat. Every single one of them.

Chuck Norris doesn't say "Who's your daddy?" because he knows the answer.

Chuck Norris is the only man who has, literally, beaten the odds. With his fists.

Most people know that Descarte said, "I think, therefore I am." What most people don't know is that that quote continues "...afraid of Chuck Norris."

The best part of waking up is not Folgers in your cup, but knowing that Chuck Norris didn't kill you in your sleep.

Chuck Norris has to use a stunt double when he does crying scenes.

Before sliced bread, people used to say "That's the greatest thing since Chuck Norris." But Chuck Norris was displeased by this. So he roundhouse kicked a loaf of bread into slices.

Chuck Norris makes onions cry.

Chuck Norris is not only a noun, but a verb.

Wearing A Century of Failed Political Ideology On Your Sleeve

My brother finally snagged an item of clothing for me I've been lusting after ever since I laid eyes on it--The Communist Party shirt @ threadless.com. Luckily I won't have to wait until my birthday to show it off. However, he has insisted that he get to wear it to school at least once to impress the ladies... Marx, Lenin, Stalin, Mao, and Castro have never looked more like pledges at Phi Sigma Kappa! If you want it yourself, good luck finding it in stock @:

Biblical Building Blocks

Today in Sunday school I was reminded of my favorite religious website based on interlocking plastic bricks. Check it out, it's pretty funny. Let's just hope no enterprising infidel creates The Brick Koran and touches off another firestorm of blasphemous controversy...
